im tryin to import music from limewire to my mp3 player but i keep gettin an error message couldnt access file?
im using ubuntu 8.04 and i cant figure out how to put itunes on it so i tried just importing music directly from limewire to the mp3 but that doesnt work. i get the error message 'couldnt access file'. any1 know wut the problem is n how to fix it?!?!?
You could use Itunes to put mp3 files on your ipod. I am assuming that you have an ipod.
Those stupid Ipods need a database which is created by itunes when you upload mp3 files to the device. This database can be created with some free open source tools as well. You don't need to run stupid itunes to put mp3 on your ipod. It's your device, you should be able to put mp3 on it whenever and wherever you like, right?
There is a project that can help you, and here's a link to it:
http://shuffle-db.sourceforge.net/
The program is just 8 Kbytes in size and it's called rebuild_db. I have used it many times before, and it doesn't need to be installed, even. Just follow the information on the page I linked to and forget about stupid itunes.
For completeness, here are some other tools that could be used instead of itunes:
http://en.kioskea.net/faq/sujet-191-managing-ipod-without-itunes
Also for completeness, it may be possible to run itunes on Linux in a wine session. I haven't tried that before, but in theory it should work.
Have fun!
Would be great to hear whether you got it to work or not.
