u r talking about blue lines running down your MP3 player, right? my sansa e280 does that sometimes. im just trying to figuer out how to restart it bcas i lost the manual and its messed up too.

anywho, if your computer keeps disconecting from it, (mine did this too) just try holding the USB to ur MP3 or even ur modem if its not staying in. but yeah also, MY MP3 wouldn't connect to my comp., & i was really worried. but now iv figured out it only works after two trys. the 3rd always works. so maybe unplug, replug, ect. if not, try restarting the player. that USUALLY helps. and if it STILL isnt working, then im sorry & i hope ur dad doesnt kill u.
